5:00 AM is Too Early

I am stuck in a gym rut. I have not made the time to go the the gym. I usually attend the Tuesday night Tai Chi class but that's all. A few months ago, I was going to the gym three times a week. My evenings and weekends are busy with my daughter's school activities and homework.

I know....that is no excuse...make time to go the gym. My brother has been asking me to meet him at the gym 5:00 am.

The Plan

Set alarm for 4:45 am.
Get up and go to the gym for 5:00 am.
Work out until 6:00 am.
Home by 6:20 am.
Get ready for work.

The Reality

Alarm goes off at 4:45 am.
Turn alarm off at 4:46 am.
Reset alarm for 6:15 am.

I did not make it to the gym for 5:00. In order for my plan to work, I need to get to sleep much earlier.

I will have to figure something else out.

5:00 am is way too early. :(

Yep. Similar situation: not enough 'time' between work and family...and 5 AM IS too early! LOL! I decided this week to get up at 5:30 (1/2 hr early) for 'me' time. I'd rather be biking, but it's too dark, so it's stretching, light weights, kata and yoga for the winter.

"that is no excuse" Well then do something about it, and whinnying does not count. Excuses are the easy way out and talks to an individual's character. "Motivation is simple You eliminate those who aren't motivated" Lou Holtz

Doesn't martial arts address inner strength? Draw upon that when the alarm goes off.

Hi Narda...glad to hear I am not the only one who thinks 5:00 AM is too early! I am going to try again tomorrow.

Father...OK brother dear...I will set my alarm again tomorrow. I agree...no excuse. I need to realign my day.

How about this .... wake up at 5:50. Out of bed at 6am. Focus on one technique (with maybe one or two variatiaons) for 25 minutes. No need to warm up, no need to sweat. Start morning routine at 6:30am ... easy!

Personally, I don't think beating one's head against a rock is all that productive. The difference between what you think you want to do and what you really want to so becomes clear. Take a step back, look at what's going on in your life and make your plans. Don't book over 50% of your "free" time because the universe finds ways of mangling our plans. At the end of the day, what makes us most crazy and unhappy are our wants.

I do the same thing. Don't feel bad. That's why I end up doing the afternoon or night classes, as it's easier to get to.

I just know myself way too well.

That scene is just so familiar and repeated a dozen times till I changed my schedule.

Lol. Yes, I must agree, 5:00am is way to early. I have never been one for early morning workouts myself. However I do like late night workouts, even sometimes past 1:00am. (Is that considered early morning??)

Colin: Thanks for the suggestion!

Rick: Always good to hear from you! You are right...I need to step back and evaluate. My busy season is fast approaching at work and I will be working 10-11 hours a day. It is an exhausting few weeks.

Ice: I set my alarm for a few more days but I never made it to the gym for 5:00 AM. Since the gym is a 20 minute drive one way...I am better off working out at home in the AM.

Marks: 1:00 AM! I would still consider that a late night workout. :)
