Leave Feeling Better

I admit it. There are times that I do not want to go to karate class, tai chi class or the gym. It could be one of many reason…tired, busy, stressed, bad day at work, my daughter needs help with homework, grumpy or simply because I do not feel like it. I am sure I am not alone. We have all had these days.

A recent email exchange with my sister:

K: I am tired and I do not want to go to the gym. I am going home to take a nap.
Me: Go to the gym.
K: I am going home.
Me: Go to the gym.
K: Nap…
Me: Go to the gym.

A half an hour later…

K: My tiredness has passed. I am going to the gym. :)

Last week it was my sister’s turn to encourage me. I was in my car on the way to the gym but was delayed by an errand. I called my sister and told her it was too late and I was not going to the gym. She told me to…”Go to the gym.”

I did. No surprise...I left the gym feeling better than when I arrived!

Did you?!

You may have felt better if you went to the gym. :)

I have days like that, too. My karate classes are on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Mondays are the worst... My daughter has homework, I'm usually wiped out by the time I get home from work, and I honestly don't feel like making the drive. Thursdays are easier. I'm in the swing of the work week. Saturdays are easy to blow off, because I'm working around the house, etc.

But so far, since January, I've missed only two classes, and when class is finished, I'm always glad that I went. :-)

Hi Fred,
Thank you for commenting. You have an excellent website. I made sure to sign up for updates.

In regards to my sister....maybe I should. :)

Hi Frank,
Thank you for visiting my blog. Congratulations on your recent promotion. Wow...only two missed days since January. That is fantastic. I know what you mean about not feeling like driving. My gym is a twenty minute drive one way.

Yep. My dojo is 20 minutes away, too. It's just far enough to be a real pain, sometimes. Then again, I feel fortunate that it's only 20 minutes away, because of the quality of my Sensei. Excellent Sensei are few and far between. Everyone else works so hard, that if I don't go, I feel like I'm letting everyone else down.

Thank you for your visit and your nice words Michele. I do enjoy your blog as well.

I have a guest book; if you feel like it and when you have the time, I would be honored to have you sign it; you are welcome to drop by at any time.

Have a great week end
Osu!
Fred

@Frank,
I admire your dedication, it is not always easy.
For me, it works better when I have a written workout plan with precise goals.

Thanks, Fred and Michele! My goals are always pretty short-term: For a while, I was trying to get Chart 1, then the Seisan Kata, then Chart 2, and now I'm working on the Seiuchin. (I think this kata was designed specifically to frustrate yellow-belts...) Haha...

Always, there are other goals: Hit the makiwara more accurately, with better power, stretch a little deeper, execute whatever block, strike, or kick with better form... Such a plethora of things to learn and work on! Constantly! :-)
