"You are as old as you think you are."

I was on the phone with my Dad and he told me about his day. He mentioned that he did a good deed. He explained that he helped an elderly couple. Dad was outside on the lawn and a car stopped in front of the house. The couple was lost and asked for directions. My Dad gave directions but the couple still seemed lost. The woman asked my Dad if he would lead them to their location. Dad agreed and led the couple to their destination.

My Mom took the phone and said, “The youngster is helping the elderly couple”. I had to ask the obvious question “How old were the people in the car?” My Dad did not know but he was certain they were older than he was.

My Dad is 79 years old.

Age is whatever you think it is. You are as old as you think you are. ~ Muhammad Ali

Or in the words of Satchel Page, "How old would you be if you didn't know who old you were?"

I not just about how old you think you are. It's also about how old you feel. The morning after a strenuous Tae Kwon Do class at the ripe young age of 45 reminds me how old my body feels. But, when I look at most of the people around me that don't practice some kind of martial art or strenuous exercise, I realize just how young my body looks...minus the gray hair. ;-)

I feel about mid 20s and still train hard, but when I fight with the stupidity of youth, I end up feeling all of 39. :-)

I feel 28, look 43, train and try to fight like I'm 22, and usually hobble around like I'm 63.

God bless Tiger Balm.

Thanks for the comments!

"It's also about how old you feel"...so true.

I have a bottle of Naproxen in my car, at work, in my purse and at home. Just in case... :)

Yep. I look around at other 35-45 year olds, and can't believe how old they look. At 41 and a life full of hard living, I have aches and pains, but they aren't anything that really slows me down much. Minus the silvering hair and the laugh lines in my face, my body looks a decade younger than it is. :-) (Some mornings, when I'm pulling myself out of bed in pieces, it feels two decades older than it is!) LOL!
