What Type of Thinker Are You?

I took an online quiz which tests nine types of thinking styles. My results: Intrapersonal Thinker. Spend a lot of time thinking about and trying to understand themselves. Reflect on their thoughts and moods, and work to improve them. You understand how your behaviour affects your relationships with others. Other Intrapersonal thinkers include Sigmund Freud, Gandhi, Grahame Greene Careers which suit Intrapersonal Thinkers include Psychologist, Teacher, Pilot, Child Care worker, Explorer, Drama therapist. My purpose for taking the quiz was to see how my thinking style relates to learning karate. There is an area of my training I want to improve. I don't "see" things the same way some of my training partners do. They are engineers and craftsmen and would probably be considered logical-mathematical thinkers. What is your thinking style? How does your thinking style impact your martial arts study?

I came up with "Interpersonal Thinker" along with the likes of Shakespeare and Mother Theresa.

It is interesting! My degree is in psychology/political science. My core courses in psychology focused on childhood development.

My employment history is in accounting, warehouse management and production planning. Go figure!

Hi Michele, I'm also an intrapersonal thinker. It's interesting that many of us are coming up with that answer. Two possible conclusions: 1)intrapersonal thinkers are drawn to budo because of the introspective path of self discovery and self improvement it leads you down or 2)intrapersonal thinkers are interested in the quiz because it helps them learn something about themselves.

Great points Sue!

I have been working on bunkai. My training partners, who are engineers/craftsmen, seem to have no trouble. I asked them how they learned to be good at bunkai. One response..."I don't know. It is how I think". It was this response which led me to the online quiz.

I am going to ask my training partners to take the quiz. I wonder if they will be Kinaesthic Thinkers (think in movements) or Logical-Math Thinkers (understand patterns and relationships between objects or actions).

We shall see... :)

Hey there, Michele...

Turns out I am a linguistic thinker. The quiz describes it as tending to think in words, using language to express complex ideas and being sensitive to the sounds and rhythms of words as well as their meanings. Leonardo da Vinci, Shakespeare, Sylvia Plath and Anne Frank were linguistic thinkers, too. Writers and journal-keepers all - surprise surprise.

Like you, I sometimes don't see things like my training partners do. My sensei and the seipai are engineers by trade. The seipai tends to over-analyze things sometimes and gets chided for not thinking outside the box, go figure. We also have a math teacher who is a very visual learner. But show her something once and she gets it immediately...

This was interesting, though. Must pass it along to my training partners as well. Thanks for posting it :-)

Logical-Mathematical thinkers - Likes to understand patterns and relationships between objects or actions
Try to understand the world in terms of causes and effects
Are good at thinking critically, and solving problems creatively

Do you think that is me, Sis?

Thanks to everyone who shared their quiz results. Did anyone get results they felt were inaccurate?

Sis: I think creative problem solver describes you very well.

Ok, I bit and took the test.

I'm a rock solid interpersonal. Interestingly, I found myself wondering if my desire to understand others, which came through in the quiz, is born from desire or necessity, due to my line of work. Either way, that was fun. Thanks.

p.s. the word verification to post my comment on your blog is "perp stab". It's got me thinking about another knife post. See, your post got me thinking twice!

Journeyman: Thanks for sharing your results! Looking forward to your "perp stab" inspired post.

Three of my training partners took the test....1 Intrapersonal and 2 Spatial.
